Littlebeck Woods

Another beautiful day and another walk, this time in the woods. We had a lovely little stroll before John, Hannah and Asher came and we spent the evening playing monopoly deal.

We were surprised to some across the hermitage, I've not looked up its history yet, but who ever lived here had a beautiful spot. I would be quite content with a little place like this. Amy had a wonderful time playing house, pretending to make us breakfast and get us to sleep on the stone benches inside.

Ravenscar

Another sunny day and another walk, this time to Ravenscar the next headland we could see from the cottage.
An icecream to set us on our way.
 Looking out across the bay.
A little accident at Boggle Hole (a good spot for finding jet).
 Enormous ammonoids!
We spent ages with our heads down looking all the amazing fossils.
 Spot the seal.

Chilling out. This is where Amy found her very first fossil!
View back to Robin Hood's Bay.
It was quick walking up along the cliff tops.
She'd stashed a cola bottle in her hand for about a mile or so.
Having a go at carrying the backpack.
'You scratch my back, I'll pick your nose'
 Looking remarkably like a Beatle.
Our 'museum': rocks and fossils collected on the holiday.

Hole of Horcum

One of the days we chose to walk in the Yorkshire Moors, we set off for a walk around the Hole of Horcum. The weather and scenery was absolutely stunning. The girls loved the walk, it was an interesting mix of moorland and wooded valley.

Back in Robin Hood's Bay in the evening, Amy and I had a good explore of the rock pools and watched the tide come in.

Robin Hood's Bay and Whitby

We headed over to our cottage after spending a few nights at John and Hannah, and popping by the Halford's in Billingham on the way.  Our little fisherman's cottage was super cute and right in the old part of the town of Robin Hood's Bay. We had gorgeous views out over the roof tops to the sea and equally gorgeous weather all week! The following week (when we were home and the first week of the school Easter holidays) saw Robin Hood's Bay and Whitby totally cut off from the outside world because of terrible snow drifts. I can't even image it, we spent most of the time in shorts and tshirts!

 Enjoying fish and chips.
The view from the living room.
 Walk down to the beach.
Hiking out on the moors.

 Land ahoy.
 Bakery lunch from Whitby.

Amy was the local attraction for the foreign school kids. They all wanted to chat to her.

The end of the holidays

Sadly our little holiday had to come to an end. We made a few stops off's on the way back to Lincoln. The first was to have a look at Filey. Dan's Grandparents celebrated their diamond anniversary a little while back. Filey is where they honeymooned and holidayed every year since! It was a bit blustery but Amy seemed to enjoy the local amusements.

 Filey Brigg
We also stopped off at Hannah's mum and dad's in Beverley. It was the start of General Conference weekend and we didn't want to miss the first session. http://www.lds.org/general-conference/watch/2012/04?lang=eng&vid=1550883203001  We had a lovely afternoon playing in the garden with Asher and seeing a few of the Ezard's who we'd not seen in a long time.

Enjoying having a swim in the hottub.
After watching conference and a gorgeous meal we headed home over the Humber bridge. Amy had been eating rubbish all day and not long after we were over the bridge it all came back up in spectacular style!

On the last day with our hire car, we headed down to the Miller's in Uppingham. We spent a lovely afternoon chatting while the kids played happily together.

We wanted to stop at the OK Diner on the way home for a nice treat. But us being us (cheapskates), we decided instead to make our own OK Diner experience complete with malted milkshakes. Needless to say our food was lush. Bacon and bluecheese burger with curly fries and slaw.

Up north

We had a lovely two week break at the end of Dan's surgical rotation in March. We used the time to visit lots of friends family and hired a little cottage for a week in Robin Hood's Bay. Here's what we got up to before we headed up to our cottage.

Visited the Preston Temple and stayed in the accommodation over night.

I wanted to take the scenic route home. We ended up going through the middle of the peaks along snake pass and past Ladybower Reservoir.

Having lots of fun at Oscar's 3rd birthday party.

Lunch with Great grandma and Grandad in Knottingly.

Up the Chevin with John and Hannah.

Bobbie's first swin at Ilkley lido (she absolutely loved it).

 Bridge jumping.

It obviously took them a while to jump as there was a cute picture of Bobbie inbetween.

 Freezing water!!
And another jump just for good measure.

Visiting the Halford's and new addition Tabitha (I think she is only 5 days old in this picture).

Up to mischief!
