We spent a few sunny afternoons exploring the castle walls and prison. It really is a lovely place to live so close to. I think the place has really sparked Amy's imagination and it is quite a treat to have the castle all to our selves, which happened on quite a few occasions.
Wandering along to the observation tower.
Views over the cathedral.
Amy preaching a sermon in the prison chapel. It's quite an eerie place. Prisoners were in their own individual cells/pews and were kind of boxed in so all they could see was the pulpit. The pews were also slanted forwards as to make the inmates pay attention, falling asleep was not an option as you'd fall of your seat. I have no idea why Amy is so attracted to this place, I find the manikins in their prison hoods very creepy. On one of our visits to the castle the ITV film crews were about filming Downton Abbey, so we got to see everyone in their period dress milling about getting ready to film.
